Tom Kittel began his journey as a photographer in 1971, driven by a passion for capturing the essence of everyday life through the lens of a camera. As a largely self-taught photographer, he immersed himself in the art, honing his skills and developing a unique perspective. From 1978 to 1988, Tom focused on the streets of New York City, primarily in Times Square, capturing the vibrant energy and diverse stories of the city streets. Since then, he has expanded his focus to document the northern tier of the United States. His travels along US-2 from Michigan to Washington State and various other projects have allowed him to explore and photograph the rich tapestry of American life.
