Portraits that make you hold your breath
Giuseppe Gradella is a talented Italian photographer and architect who has achieved great success in his photography career. He has been recognized as one of Italy's best photographers by Vogue and draws inspiration mainly from memories and dreams. He believes that everything is layered over time, in the heart and in memory, and that it will eventually find a way back to the light to unveil itself. He sees photography as a way to hold his breath, submerge himself in the present moment, and then re-emerge with a different, more aware, perspective. He uses patience and an excellent bait to fish for memories in physical places and in those that exist in memory, where life and dreams intertwine in a process of transfiguration and internal re-creation in which time is suspended. His photographs, which deal with fashion, architecture, and fine art, often juxtapose what is actually in front of the camera with what he has retained from his experiences, in a continuous study that becomes introspective self-critique. He continues to be deeply passionate about photography, saying "For me, photography arrived like a storm after months of drought, and I am still very thirsty." Giuseppe lives and works in Mantua, Italy.
